Education - Support For Rare Disease Researchers, Disabled, Elderly, Children

Never before in recent years, scientific research has reached unimaginable results, thanks to the new knowledge of DNA and the advent of cutting edge technology, but the objectives are even more ambitious. Doctors and scientists are working every day to not only heal 100% of the patients but also to prevent healthy people from getting sick.

The treatment of disease through highly innovative solutions, and early detection, looking for signs of the disease in its earliest stages, are the challenges of today’s research that the Foundation chose to fund the outset, enabling a growing number of research grants and supporting a range of projects of high scientific value.

The Research Foundation is represented primarily by the work of young scientists of today who will be the scientists of tomorrow excellence.

With enthusiasm and passion divide their time between laboratories and hospital wards because the findings of the research are transformed quickly into drugs, treatments, ready-made solutions to provide real hope to those who live in suffering.

Among the diseases that will fund this year in research, there are also

Oncology

Oncology (from the greek óncos, mass and logos, study) is the branch of medicine that involves the study and treatment of cancer. Neoplasia (from the greek new, new, and hyperplasia, training) is the abnormal and uncontrolled proliferation of cells in a tissue or organ of the body. Most of the tumors proliferate to form large (more or less) distinct from the area in which they arise. In this sense the term is used synonymously with neoplasm tumor (from the Latin Tumeo, swollen). Malignant neoplasms show a high degree of anaplasia [3], and have the ability to invade adjacent structures and the ability to spread to other organs through the lymphatic system and circulation ematico.la knowledge of them.

The term cancer is usually used as a synonym for malignancy. The most frequent form of cancer is carcinoma, a class of malignant tumors that arise from the epithelial cells in the skin, in the gastrointestinal tract and other internal organs (when interests glandular epithelia speaking adenocarcinoma).

As an example of forms of cancer other than cancer, may be mentioned sarcomas, which arise from cells of the soft tissues (muscles, blood vessels, adipose tissue) and bone, gliomas, resulting from the processing of the glial cells of the System central nervous lymphomas, which arise from the neoplastic transformation of linfociti, melanoma derived from the neoplastic transformation of melanocytes in the skin or other organs. Studies of tumors are leading medical and scientific universe. Yet, despite the thousands of lives saved each day, are 7 million people die worldwide each year because of cancer. The big killers are still represented by the breast, lung and colorectal cancer, but a growing number of cancers that affect the stomach and liver. What to do? How to act? The Foundation has chosen to implement the number of researchers working in this field of medicine by funding research grants and scientific projects focused on early detection: to be able to diagnose cancer at earlier stages means to ensure more and more patients the healing 100 %. Messages will be organized for the population, in all forms of communication currently present, in order to sensitize and help the knowledge of them.

Neuroscience

Neuroscience is the set of scientifically conducted studies on the nervous system. Traditionally, neuroscience has been seen as a branch of biology, but it is currently an interdisciplinary science that collaborates with other fields such as chemistry, computer science, engineering, linguistics, psychology, sociology, mathematics, medicine and related disciplines, philosophy, physics. The term neurobiology is usually used interchangeably with the term neuroscience, although the former refers specifically to the biology of the nervous system, while the latter refers to the entire science of the nervous system.

The scope of neuroscience has broadened to include different approaches used to study the molecular and cellular aspects of development, structural, functional, evolutionary, computational, and doctors nervous.

It also greatly expanded the techniques used by neuroscientists, who are now able to study the molecular aspects of individual nerve cells to the overall functioning of the brain through the use of functional neuroimaging techniques. The neurosciences are still too advanced and progressing through the study of neural networks.

Neurology, psychiatry, neurosurgery, psychosurgery, anesthesiology, neuropathology, neuroradiology, clinical neurophysiology and addiction medicine are medical specialties that relate to diseases of the nervous system. These terms also refer to clinical disciplines involving diagnosis and treatment of these diseases. Neurology works with diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system, such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and stroke, and with their medical treatment.

Psychiatry focuses on affective disorders, behavioral, cognitive and perceptual. The anesthesiology focuses on the perception of pain, and on altering drug of consciousness.

The neuropathology focuses on the classification and the mechanisms underlying diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system and muscular, with a focus on morphological changes observed in the microscope and chemically. Neurosurgery and psychosurgery work primarily with surgical treatment of diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system. The boundaries between these specialties are newly confusing as they are all influenced by basic research in neuroscience. Brain imaging allows objective, biological mental illness, which can lead to faster diagnosis, more accurate prognosis, and help assess the patient’s progress over time.

The integrative neuroscience focus the connections between these specialized areas. The neurosciences are working hard to lesser known diseases as cancer cells but dramatic growth in our country. It is, for example, neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease or Alzheimer’s disease: the lengthening of the average life and achievements of medicine in general as they reflected a greater number of elderly and young people affected by these forms. Hence the choice of the Foundation to focus the efforts of the best scientists in this Area by funding a number of important research projects: the objective is to elucidate the mechanisms leading to the development of neurodegenerative diseases and thus lay the foundation for the development of increasingly effective therapies in the future.

Cardiology and Chronic Diseases

Cardiology is the branch of medicine that deals with the study, diagnosis and treatment (pharmacological and / or invasive) of acquired or congenital heart disease. Those involved in this branch of medicine, as a specialist, is called the cardiologist.
Cardiology is a discipline that in recent years it has evolved and in it have developed specialties such as hemodynamics and electrophysiology.

It should also be noted that the improvement in medical and surgical treatment of congenital heart disease has led to the survival of their children, now adults, have led to the emergence of a new branch of cardiology dedicated to adult congenital heart disease.

In addition to the treatment of cardiovascular disease, heart failure, rhythm abnormalities, the cardiologist takes care of cardiovascular prevention and rehabilitation of the patient undergoing cardiac revascularization is it that percutaneous angioplasty.

Cardiovascular disease is still the leading cause of death worldwide (50% of the total number of developed countries and 25% in developing countries). Among the most common heart disease we find the stable exertional angina , unstable angina and myocardial infarction. Do not you know that cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death for millions of people around the world. And these diseases are closely related to incorrect lifestyles such as cigarette smoking, poor diet, lack of physical activity, either permanently or from other causes currently unknown. The Foundation strives to promote a culture of health, promoting healthy lifestyles that can prevent the onset of serious illnesses, often lethal. In addition to prevention education, the Foundation also supports scientific research in this area by funding research grants and major projects are able to find solutions to protect the cardiovascular system from disease.

Nutrigenomics and Disease Prevention

Nutrigenomics is the science that studies the relationships between genetic and food; as the molecules that we introduce in the diet affect, our genes and therefore our health, both positively and negatively. Nutrigenomics goes hand in hand with prevention, especially of chronic cardiovascular disease, cerebrovascular disease and cancer are responsible for the vast majority of deaths in the world. A healthy lifestyle is the first weapon available to combat most diseases.

In the distant past there is little information on medical care for children, while greater the number of retrieved documents that deal with food, farming and education from infant to infant, often placed in the context of recipes, tips or essays and Treaties of obstetrics. In the Roman world, children are given special attention by regulators. The first law concerning the childhood of which we know can be attributed to the founder of Rome, Romulus, which grants parents the power to kill the sons and daughters born deformed secondogenite.

This despicable practice, together with the exhibition was finally abolished by Constantine. The historical information on the care for children Romans tell us that they are many and they start from the choice of the nurse, to ensure the appropriate infant nutrition, continuing with recommendations on the care and hygiene of the body and ends with practical suggestions on to strengthen the constitution and to educate the mind and body. Among the authors who have excelled in the study of problems of infants should be remembered Soranus of Ephesus, medical greek (98-128 AD), who lived in Alexandria and Rome under the emperors Trajan and Hadrian, and founder of the medical school of the Methodical said. Sorano is author of De morbis mulierum, considered the first treatise on gynecology and obstetrics science where there are too many signs that relate to the child such as: double ligation of the umbilical cord, cleaning of ears and mouth with oil, dressing techniques, nutrition and nursing care for disorders of early childhood. Sorano is regarded by historians as the greatest of ancient Rome obstetrician, founder of obstetrics and gynecology and also considered one of the forerunners of Pediatrics.

During the Middle Ages the Islamic medicine that allows the practitioner to know to move forward and not fall into oblivion. Extended is the attention that the doctors at this time turning to disease of children. Among the Persian doctors that have helped in the establishment of a core of knowledge pediatric examples are: Avicenna (980-1037) author of the Canon, translated into Latin, and required reading in university study, which describes in detail the exanthematous fevers, acute meningitis, lepleuriti, apoplexy and vomiting in children; Albucasis (1013-1106) that provides therapeutic indications neonatology; Rhazes (890-923), Persian physician and author of over two hundred books, is accurately measles, smallpox and scarlet fever. From Italy comes the famous medical school of Salerno, but did not reach medical texts infant.

Of the medieval remember Aldobrandino of Siena, who lived around the middle of the thirteenth century and author delRégimen du corps. Responsible for drawing up a treaty of hygiene that would be a gift to the daughters of the Countess of Provence, the Sienese physician is natural to start with recommendations from the early days of the birth, so naturally develops a small work dipuericultura and pediatrics. Other major medical is Paul Bagellardo from Rijeka, who lived in the fifteenth century and author of De aegritudinis infantium libellum, that is: eczema skin, muscle spasms, epilepsy, insomnia, eye diseases, diseases borne by ear nose and throat, mumps, abscesses tonsil, stomatitis, teething pains, cough, vomiting, diarrhea, and verminazione hernia. The systemic treatment, the detailed description of the symptoms and the clinical symptomatology, giving details of the treatment advice make the “De aegritudinis” one of the most valuable contributions of Italian and medieval medicine for children.

The Foundation also aims to enhance research on new vaccines, also to give a drop for diphtheria, pertussis, hepatitis B, mumps, rubella and meningitis. The appeal of the scientists is to not let your guard down.

Health Care And Realization Of Private

Since ancient times, the medicine is mixed with magic, especially the medicine was officio closely related to religion and therefore not used in early care but for liturgical purposes. In Egypt, on the one hand certain practices were addressed only to individuals from a high rank (mummification, surgery), recent studies have shown that health care was guaranteed to slaves devoted to the work at the Pyramids. At the time of Hippocrates haruspicy practiced in the temples of Asclepius and the Romans, who learned the culture of the Greeks, founded the first xenodochei ie small kiosks located at periferire of the city that served as the emergency room for travelers. With the advent of Christianity, the disease is seen as an opportunity to atone for the evil spirit (Rule, St. Benedict). In the monasteries, in particular, was initiated the practice of herbal medicine to wait until the Crusades were born when the first monastic orders military to act as first aid and medical care to which they are still worthy representatives of the Knights of Malta.

In 1440, the “Decree Rampignano” introduced the figure of the doctor to distinguish secular from the religious. With the advent of the great geographical discoveries and imperialism spread outbreaks of exotic diseases in Europe so as to force local authorities to establish the first “infirmaries”. This is a milestone because it was outside of the public health administration from the traditional clerical; thus the local governors could appoint practitioners who could authorize direct admissions, whereas before they could only do the clerics. In the seventeenth century, in the wake of the ideals of the utilitarian Jeremy Bentham’s Panopticon, hospitals assunerso function to accommodate other issues within the homelessness, mental illness, delinquency, etc.

With the French Revolution, it was decided to include explicitly in the “Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen” the right to be cared for. In the eighteenth century date from the first investigations of statistical sampling dulle inpatient hospital discharge and, in this way healthcare is married with positivism (Pasteur, Darwin) to ensure a specialization in the medical profession. In the nineteenth century with the coming of the Industrial Revolution and the great capitalist powers emerges the idea of health care as a means to guarantee the production capacity for each person. Only in the twentieth century due to political regimes based on socialism was possible to guarantee universal health care access.

Investing in health

Health, as well as being in itself a value, it is also a prerequisite for economic prosperity. Efficient spending in the health sector can promote growth. Europe and beyond, they need smart investments in health. It should be:

  • spend better, but not necessarily more, to have sustainable health systems
  • invest in the health of people, especially through programs of health promotion
  • invest in health coverage for reducing inequalities and tackling social exclusion.

Health policies

Because our health is largely influenced by exogenous factors, to be effective health policy must also involve other policies, in particular:

  • social and regional policy
  • taxation
  • environment
  • education
  • search

The EU Treaty requires always take this approach, entitled “Health in all policies” (Health in all Policies – HIAP). To be fully effective, it must also be extended to national, regional and local.

How to use the funds for health activities

  • Health infrastructure – modernization of health care, construction and renovation of facilities, medical equipment and technologies

  • Investments in activities to improve health and safety at work, health promotion and prevention, lifelong learning to enhance the adaptability of the workforce, training and education for health professionals, institutional capacity, access to employment and social inclusion in health and long-term.

  • Other – healthy aging, health online, cross-border cooperation, innovations in health care, information technology.

Medical devices

The role of medical devices in health care is crucial. The diversity and innovativeness of this sector contribute significantly to improving the quality and effectiveness of health care.

The medical device industry includes a wide range of products, from simple bandages to more sophisticated products for the maintenance of life, and plays a vital role in the diagnosis, prevention, monitoring and treatment of diseases in order to improve the quality of life for citizens who suffer from disabilities.

The EU’s involvement concerns mainly the regulatory framework for market access, international trade relations and regulatory convergence, all designed to ensure the highest level of patient safety while promoting innovation and competitiveness of the sector.

Structural interventions

The structure of the clinic is built in a modern style with arrangements for the removal of architectural structures and maximum access and facilities for the disabled and the security and absolute respect for the environment, has 75 comfortable rooms with two beds each equipped with spacious En suite bathrooms and furnishings in keeping with standard, air-conditioned facility, summer, winter and completely independent for each room, TV, telephone, ample parking, a dining room, kitchen for preparing meals or for distribution, local pantries and service, room accommodation, swimming pool.

The creation of a Private Clinic and identified as specialized center for Alzheimer’s patients, as mentioned in the description of synthesis, provides for the proponent to consult segment as mentioned earlier degenerative diseases caused by genetic factors as well as those related to changing and the amendment of our time and its

main causes, stress, the hectic pace of work, the different lifestyles become unruly, individuals who are suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, today more and more development and growth, to live together their families a real ordeal during the whole period of their lives or, in fact, the lack of similar structures not only on site but rather in Italy (think that from studies done in Italy there are currently only three such centers, two of which owned by a Spanish company). Makes sure that very often, given the lack of public facilities specialist, and the family having to incur all the responsibilities of the case, such as, ongoing support, medical nursing care and hygiene company of the sick person, and another with a significant increase in costs and a waste of energy on an emotional level and staff, in order to better understand what Alzheimer’s disease, we must first know it is a progressive degenerative neural disease of no return, that mainly affects older people, but in some cases, caused by non-genetic diseases in young subjects; occurs with a progressive loss of memory and confusion in some cases that may result in temporary and aggressive stages of the subject in the post does not remember anything until the complete loss of memory. Recent statistics indicate that 24.3 million people worldwide are living with dementia, with 4.6 million new cases per year (one new case every 7 seconds). In Europe dementia cases are about 5 million, of which over 3 million are due to Alzheimer’s disease. This value is still set to rise dramatically, given the continuous increase in life expectancy; in 2040 it is expected that the number of cases will double in Western Europe and will triple in eastern europe. Despite the many advances in science that have allowed us to interpret the molecular basis of the disease, very little progress has been made in therapeutic and diagnostic.

The objective of the study, developed in the field of nanotechnology, is to create nanoparticles (nps) are able to cross the blood-brain barrier to reach the brain, the seat of the disease of Alzheimer’s.

At nanoparticles linked molecules will be able to recognize (diagnosis) and destroy (therapy) amyloid plaques that are deposited in the brain in this disease. the effectiveness of the nps will eventually be tested in animal models of the disease (transgenic rats).

If the expectations of the research are expected, you can move to human trials. the results will have a huge impact in the early diagnosis and treatment of a disease with a high social cost and high impact. In the onset and development of Alzheimer's disease the production and accumulation of amyloid-beta peptide (Abeta), a fragment dellaproteina precursor (app), play a central role. The fragments of beta-amyloid aggregate to form oligomers, fibrils and plaques that cause a progressive degeneration of nerve cells. the three types of nanoparticles developed and used in the project nad polymer (PNP), solid-lipid (.sln) and liposomes (lip), will be responsible for breaking up and removing blood from the brain and the beta-amyloid peptide in excess.

All other diseases not mentioned will be considered with respect to the disease at the time in the world and demands present.
In the Foundation are, as in any other sector, specialists in every medical field, and in a way that ensures any project the right expertise and the right commitment.
